The Pulmonology Division of St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital offers consultation, diagnostic testing and treatment for infants and children with pulmonary diseases including the following:

• Asthma
• Bronchopulmonary dysplasia
• Congenital lung abnormalities
• Neuromuscular respiratory disease
• Chronic respiratory failure
• Recurrent pneumonia
• Persistent cough
• Environmental allergies
• Cystic Fibrosis (Refer to Special Programs)
• Sleep Disorders (Refer to Special Programs)

Pulmonary Function Testing

Pulmonary function tests are performed each year to evaluate and follow lung disease in children. A full spectrum of pulmonary function tests, including spirometry, diffusion analysis, lung volumes, exercise testing and methacholine challenges are available. Physicians may order Pulmonary Function Tests by calling the Pediatric Pulmonary Laboratory at (973)754-2508

Bronchoscopy Laboratory

Examination of the upper and lower airway by flexible bronchoscope and bronchoalveolar lavage is an important diagnostic tool in the evaluation of:

  • Stridor
  • Persistent wheezing
  • Refractory, chronic cough
  • Pneumonias
  • Unusual infections
  • Atelectasis
  • Cystic Fibrosis
  • Congenital abnormalities of the lung
